Kybella

What is Kybella?

Kybella is an in-office injection that improves the appearance and profile of a “double-chin” or moderate to severe submental fat underneath the chin. This is the first FDA-approved injectable treatment used to physically reduce fat cells along the chin area and reverse the signs of aging. As a non-surgical aesthetic treatment, it can improve chin contouring without the invasiveness and downtime that comes with surgery.

Did you know…

Kybella contains the active ingredient deoxycholic acid, also known as cholanoic acid, which occurs naturally in the intestinal tract to absorb fats. Kybella uses the synthetic version of cholanoic acid to target submental fullness (excess fat) underneath the chin.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who are candidates for Kybella?

Candidates for Kybella include those who wish to eliminate moderate to severe fatty areas along the neck and chin. Patients should not receive Kybella if they have an infection in the treatment area. It is essential to review your medical history, including surgeries and aesthetic treatment in the area, trouble swallowing, and pregnancy, before your treatment to ensure the best effects and minimize potential side effects.

How is the Kybella treatment performed?

For your Kybella treatment, your provider will perform a series of injections along the areas of your “double-chin.” A local anesthetic will be injected before the treatment to ensure a comfortable experience, and ice packs will be provided after the treatment to help minimize swelling and/or pain

How long does a Kybella treatment take?

The treatment takes about 30 minutes on average, but, it may vary depending on the area of treatment, size of the area, your desired results, and your skin health.

What are the side effects of Kybella?

Common side effects with Kybella include swelling, numbness, redness, pain, and hardness in the treatment area. Although rare, Kybella can also cause serious side effects, including nerve injury to the jaw, and difficulty swallowing. Make sure to discuss with your doctor for medical advice and its side effects before your treatment to see if it is right for you.

What does recovery time look like with Kybella?

Recovery time for Kybella takes from 48 hours to two weeks, depending on the areas treated. Side effects such as minor swelling and tenderness are common, but most patients can continue their daily activities the day after treatment.
