Microneedling for Acne Scars & Skin Texture

Microneedling for selected acne scars and uneven skin texture, with treatment tailored to your skin, goals and recovery needs.

← Cosmetics and Aesthetics

If acne scars, enlarged pores, or uneven texture bother you more than fine lines, microneedling can be a straightforward way to stimulate remodeling without changing your features.

We choose depth and treatment intervals based on the concern, skin tone, and how your skin heals.

It can be used alone or as part of a combination plan when one method is unlikely to do enough.

Recovery & Results

Daily activities: Often resume quickly; redness may remain visible.
Visible recovery: Redness or darker discoloration, tenderness and swelling may last a few days to a week.
Results: Texture and scar improvement develop over weeks to months, often across a series.

How It Works and What to Expect

Microneedling uses sterile fine needles to create controlled microchannels in the skin. This controlled injury stimulates wound healing and collagen remodeling and may improve selected textural concerns.

What can microneedling help with?

  • Selected acne scars
  • Uneven texture
  • Fine lines
  • Selected surgical or traumatic scars

What happens during treatment?

A topical anesthetic is commonly applied before treatment. The device is then passed over the treatment area at a depth selected for the condition and anatomy. Temporary redness, swelling, and sensitivity are expected afterward.

How many sessions are needed?

Many patients benefit from a series of treatments. Improvement develops gradually over weeks to months as collagen remodels.

Who should postpone treatment?

Microneedling is generally avoided over active infection, open wounds, or significant inflammatory skin disease. A history of keloids, abnormal wound healing, immune suppression, or certain medications may also affect candidacy.

Skin tone and pigment risk

Microneedling can be used across a wide range of skin tones, but inflammation can still trigger post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. Technique, depth, aftercare, and sun protection matter.

Microneedling, RF and PRP

RF Microneedling adds energy and has additional risks; its dedicated page includes the FDA’s safety communication. Facial PRP is a separate treatment consideration, not an automatically necessary add-on. FDA authorization of a microneedling device does not establish safety or effectiveness for every combination.

Your clinician can determine whether microneedling alone or another scar or resurfacing treatment is more appropriate. Explore our acne-scar treatment overview or pores and texture information to compare goals.
