Texture, acne scars, fine lines, and early laxity often need more than surface skin care.
RF microneedling combines controlled needling with radiofrequency energy to stimulate remodeling below the surface.
We decide whether the added energy is worth it for your skin tone, concern, and downtime rather than using it simply because the device is available.
Recovery & Results
Daily activities: Plan around visible redness and your treatment intensity.
Visible recovery: Redness, swelling or sensitivity may last a few days to a week; deeper treatment can take longer.
Results: Collagen-related changes develop over weeks to months; reassess between sessions.
What concerns may be considered?
Depending on examination findings, treatment may be discussed for selected acne scars, uneven texture, fine lines and mild skin laxity. Goals should be specific and realistic. RF microneedling cannot erase every scar, permanently eliminate pores or reproduce a surgical facelift. Deep scars or substantial laxity may call for a different plan.
A current safety consideration
In an October 15, 2025 safety communication, the FDA reported serious complications associated with certain uses of RF microneedling, including burns, scarring, fat loss, disfigurement and nerve damage. Some reported injuries required medical or surgical treatment. The FDA emphasizes that RF microneedling is a medical procedure, not a home treatment, and recommends discussing benefits and risks with a trained, licensed health-care provider.
This warning is part of an informed treatment discussion—not a reason to assume every device, setting or patient has the same risk. Ask how your clinician will choose the treatment area and parameters and whether a non-RF alternative better fits your goals.
Before treatment
Bring a list of medications and supplements and describe previous fillers, lasers, surgery, abnormal scars, cold sores, pigment changes and any implanted devices. Active infection, irritated skin, healing problems and relevant medical conditions can affect candidacy. Your clinician will review whether treatment should be delayed or avoided. Do not stop prescribed medication without guidance from its prescriber.
Recovery and realistic expectations
Redness, swelling, tenderness, pinpoint bleeding or crusting may follow treatment. Infection and pigment changes are possible, in addition to the energy-related risks described above. Results evolve as tissue heals; early swelling is not the final result. Your plan should explain skin care, sun protection, follow-up and when to seek help for unexpected pain, blistering, weakness, numbness or skin changes.
A series may be considered, but the number and spacing of visits should be individualized rather than promised as a universal package.
Arrange your consultation
RF microneedling should be matched to the specific goal—texture, scars, or tightening—and to skin tone and tolerance for downtime. Device availability varies by office, so the treatment location is confirmed when scheduling.
Your Questions, Answered
How is it different from standard microneedling?
It delivers radiofrequency energy through tiny needles to heat tissue and stimulate collagen.
When can I restart makeup and active skincare?
Follow your treatment-specific instructions; wait until the skin has recovered and your clinician clears you.
Recovery varies with your skin, treatment area and settings. Follow your individual aftercare instructions.
