Dermaplaning

Dermaplaning for smoother surface texture and removal of fine vellus hair, selected around acne, sensitivity and overall skin condition.

← Back to Medispa

Peach fuzz and rough surface texture can make skin care or makeup sit unevenly.

Dermaplaning removes superficial dead skin and fine vellus hair for a smoother surface without trying to change the skin more deeply.

We use it selectively, especially when active acne, irritation, or another condition makes a different treatment a better choice.

Recovery & Results

Daily activities: Usually the same day.
Visible recovery: Temporary redness, sensitivity or small nicks are possible.
Results: Smoother skin and less peach fuzz are noticeable early; hair removal is temporary.

What dermaplaning can—and cannot—do

Removing superficial buildup and fine facial hair can change how smooth the skin feels and how makeup sits on its surface. The hair removal is temporary. Dermaplaning does not treat the underlying cause of hormonal facial hair, replace laser hair reduction or reliably correct deep wrinkles, depressed acne scars or significant pigmentation disorders.

Choosing between surface treatments

HydraFacial, microdermabrasion and chemical peels use different approaches to skin care and exfoliation. You do not need every treatment at once. Tell the team whether your priority is fine hair, congestion, dullness, dryness or another concern so the appointment has a clear purpose.

A dermaplaning add-on may be considered with a facial when appropriate, but combining exfoliating procedures can also increase irritation. The sequence and timing should be chosen for your skin rather than copied from a package advertised elsewhere.

When should treatment be postponed?

Active inflamed acne, an open wound, a cold sore, infection or a significant flare of a sensitive skin condition may make treatment unsuitable. Tell the clinician about recent peels, lasers, waxing, prescription skin treatments and any history of abnormal scarring or pigment changes. A medical skin concern should be assessed before a cosmetic exfoliation appointment.

What to expect

The treatment area is assessed and prepared before controlled passes over appropriate skin. The team will explain the intended approach and aftercare. Ask which products to pause or resume, whether makeup should be delayed and when another exfoliating treatment may be appropriate. Do not independently stop prescribed treatment to prepare.

Temporary redness, sensitivity, irritation or small nicks can occur. Less common risks include infection, scarring and changes in pigmentation. Be gentle with treated skin and follow the sun-protection advice provided. Contact the practice for worsening redness, pain, drainage or other unexpected symptoms.

Your Questions, Answered

Will facial hair grow back thicker?

No. A blunt cut end may make regrowth feel different.

Will it remove deep acne scars?

No. It targets surface buildup and fine hair; deeper scars require a different approach.

Recovery varies with your skin, treatment area and settings. Follow your individual aftercare instructions.
