Ultherapy – Lift And Tighten Without Surgery

Ultherapy - Lift And Tighten Without Surgery

Ultherapy is a completely non-invasive method of lifting and tightening the skin on the forehead, chin, neck, and décolletage. Using ultrasound energy, this innovative device reaches the deep structural layers of the skin. In this way, Ultherapy targets tissue depth similar to a surgical facelift. Ultherapy uses proven ultrasonic energy to naturally lift and tighten skin without invasive surgery. This rejuvenating treatment stimulates new collagen and restores skin elasticity with no downtime. At Borealis Dermatology, we are delighted to offer this exciting technology to our patients and have heard only praise for the results.

What Is Ultherapy?

Loose, inelastic skin is an inevitable result of aging. Ultherapy helps reverse some of this unwanted loss of tension using ultrasonic energy emitted by an ultrasound device in the form of heat. This heat is delivered to the deeper layers of the skin and muscles, tightening the skin and stimulating the production of new, firmer collagen. The wonderful characteristic of ultrasonic energy is that it treats deep tissue while leaving the surface untouched. Ultherapy is the only FDA-approved ultrasonic therapy to lift the skin and treat wrinkles in the following areas:

  • Brow

  • Chin

  • Neck

Treatment Beneath the Surface

This ultrasound technology also allows us to view the area to be treated through a computer monitor, much like a doctor views ultrasound to diagnose tissue abnormalities.

During your appointment, the device is passed back and forth on the skin. Some patients experience only a slight squeeze, while others report more pressure. During the consultation, we discuss your pain tolerance and medications we can use to minimize any discomfort.

Note that if you are taking prescription pain medication, you are not allowed to drive yourself home after treatment. Please make sure to have someone to drive you from the office after your treatment if you plan on taking prescription pain medication.

What to expect from Ultherapy?

Ultherapy frees you from the general anesthesia or stitches related to invasive surgeries. With Ultherapy, you can return to normal activities right away. In most cases, people experience mild redness or mild swelling for about a day. Uncommonly, others may experience varying degrees of bruising.

Some of our patients see changes in the skin very quickly. But you should expect results after 3 months when new collagen is formed in your skin and continues to improve within 6 months. The results are long-lasting, but the effects wear off after a few years, or sooner due to the natural aging process. Another amazing benefit is that Ultherapy maintenance is as easy as the first treatment. Simply make your appointment, get treated, and see results.

Is Ultherapy Painful?

Each of our patients experiences treatment in a slightly different way, with some finding it a little uncomfortable, while others who are highly sensitive know in advance that they prefer a pre-discussed measure of comfort. You may feel a warm or tingling sensation under the skin during and after the procedure, but most people can tolerate this treatment well without any medication.

If you’re nervous about the experience, talk to Dr. Arora. Our team will walk you through the procedure and give you options to minimize any discomfort. Any sensation you feel from the device should dissipate quickly by the end of the treatment. Post-treatment discomfort is usually mild and can be managed with over-the-counter pain relievers and rest.

Are There Any Risks To Ultherapy?

Although no incisions or invasive procedures are used, the nonsurgical treatment carries certain risks of complications and side effects.

Side effects associated with Ultherapy include:

  • Swelling

  • Tingling

  • Bruising

  • Temporary numbness

  • Skin sensitivity

  • Transient nerve injury

  • Transient thermal injury

It is important to note that this procedure is FDA-approved and has been performed millions of times with very few long-term complications. However, these facts do not rule out the possibility of side effects and it is important that you are properly informed when choosing your treatment.

We understand our patients are nervous about any treatment directly applied to the face. By choosing Borealis Dermatology in Long Island, you are choosing a trained, experienced, and qualified cosmetic dermatology team to supervise your Ultherapy treatment. There are two locations for your convenience. Call (516) 246-8800 to schedule your appointment today.
