The lesion is treated with a curette and/or electrical energy in a controlled fashion. The site usually heals by forming a crust and then new skin.

What are the risks?

Possible risks include bleeding, infection, scarring, pigment change, delayed healing, and recurrence. Cosmetic outcome varies by location and individual healing characteristics.

Is it right for every skin cancer?

No. Tumor type, size, location, histology, recurrence risk, and cosmetic considerations determine whether electrodesiccation and curettage, excision, Mohs surgery, or another treatment is most appropriate.

Related reading from Borealis

Explore these topics for more background and questions to discuss at your visit.

Wart & Skin Tag Removal

What to know about a changing mole

After Your Procedure

For general care after electrodesiccation, curettage, hyfrecation, or a superficial removal, see Electrodesiccation & Superficial Removal Wound Care.

← Back to Surgical and Procedural Dermatology

Electrodesiccation and hyfrecation for selected skin growths, with diagnosis-focused treatment and clear healing expectations.

[35

post-546","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-surgical-dermatology
https://wp.me/phqUFp-8O
https://i0.wp.com/borealisderm.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/Electrodesiccation-unit-at-Borealis-Dermatology-1.webp?fit=904%2C1200&ssl=1
["GET
